The Divorce Process – What Happens After I Submit the Divorce Interview Form?
When you submit your Divorce Interview Form, we will draft a simple 3 page Divorce Complaint for you to review, sign in front of a notary and return to us by mail. Once you have done that and made your payment your involvement is done and we will handle the rest. Here’s what happens next …
We will notify you by e-mail when we receive the paperwork from you. Within two weeks of receipt, it will be filed with the Court. A file number and summons will be issued by the clerk’s office and then it will go out to be served on your spouse (usually by certified mail). This step takes on average up to 2 weeks.
When you spouse signs for the certified mail, about 30 days later your case will be put on the next available court docket for a Judge or the Clerk of Court to review and sign off on your Divorce Judgment. This step takes on average between 4 to 5 weeks.
At that point, your divorce will be final and you will received a certified copy of the Divorce Judgment by mail. This last step takes on average between 1 to 2 weeks
Normally, as long as your spouse is somewhat cooperative with you, this entire process can be completed in 45 to 60 days or sooner if you opted for the expedited service with a Waiver.
